Nice to meet you, too, Design Mom!
I met 800 amazing women this past weekend at BlogHer in Chicago! I'm sitting in an airport, waiting (fingers crossed) for the desk to call my name, tell me I made it on the plane. Frontier Airlines canceled one flight and double booked every seat on another, and I'm begging for a stand-by seat along with a couple hundred displaced others. I'll post my thoughts on BlogHer and the Storytelling panel once I'm back in the Land of Enchantment.
Design Mom liked my homemade business cards, and managed to somehow collect a small handful of them. Please visit her post and let her (and me!) know what you think of my I'm-a-cheap-mom art. You need to scroll down to see the front-and-back photos she took of my calling cards.

What a great idea! I'd like to have a sampling of those home-made cards, too!
Yet another idea I may have to "borrow"!

Jonah, I can't tell you how many women told me they were going to do the same thing next year (or when they arrived home). They really look great in person - and all of the 300 cards I made were completely, 100 percent unique. No two cards alike!

Wow... no REALLY! WOW! Dirdie, I've said it before, and I'll say it again... YOU ROCK!

Birdie, I'm glad you saw the post. I blog about where design and motherhood intersect, so your cards were a perfect topic!
And just in case you were wondering, I borrowed these cards for the photo and promptly gave them back to their rightful owners — it wouldn't be right to hoard such lovely cards.

Tx for the update. I miss you already. Your cards were awesome. I'm getting ready to take the shuttle to O'Hare and blue line into the city. Keep me posted.

Design Mom, you are the best! I am definitely going to keep following your blog, as I am a big crafter. :)

Hmmm... Freud might think so... sorry about that. ;p

Is there anything that Ms. Birdie can not do???
* Raises Pig, Parrots and Kids (and our consiousness)
* Sings (well - what's a Birdie to do?)
* Plays Guitar
* Graphic Designer (on a budgies budget too!)
* Dances (Salsa was it?)
* Door to Door Sales Consultant
* Americana Documentarian
* Teaches (or is that wrangles) kids
* Oh yeah – and writes like a #$&@@!! (in a good way)
I think next she will be telling us how she was invited out to White Sands to bring the boys out there up to snuff on her new Foundation #3 powered Love Rocket.

Well-put, Jedd. And Stever, heh, I think you're on to something.
Birdie, the cards look great -- what a fabulously crafty-eco-and-budget-conscious idea, and obviously well-received :-)
Patia, thanks for taking such good care of our girl. It was fun to get to talk to you in the middle of your big Big City adventure!
Safe trips home to you both!!

Your cards are fab & thoughtful - no pre-made, assembly-lined stuff from our Bird.

Hi, Birdie! I enjoyed your panel and chatting with you briefly in the baked pretzel line. I've been nosing around here and at the BlogHer website and enjoying your writing. My curiosity is piqued by the famous Avon chronicles, though. Are they here or at an old haunt?
Posted by: Jeana | July 30, 2007 at 09:00 PM
Jedd, you know I fall in internet geek love with you ever time you post a comment, don'tcha?
Marilyn, yay!!! Thanks for dropping by! Big hugs, honey!
Corrie, thanks so much. You and Carroll have it right - no pre-fab for me, and when I can recycle, I'm soooo there.
Jeana, hi!! Yay, my pretzel sista!! I'm so glad you dropped by! My Avon Adventures are in the sidebar - under "Birdie's Avon Adventures" in the stories list. :) Enjoy, and have a good laugh!
Lloyd, you crack me up!!

Well, how do you expect me to track it down with a misleading title like that? :-)
I found them right after I posted that. And boy you're quick with the response.
Posted by: Jeana | July 30, 2007 at 09:11 PM
Usually I'm not quick at all, LOL. I'm catchin' up on my eBay store and writing a funny story to post tomorrow about a Turk, a skunk, and The Law...
(Shhhh, anyone at the Unconference Need for Stories table, don't give it away! I am determined to write this tonight, as it is part of my Writing Lesson series...)

Panachic. I especially like the swimming legs.
Posted by: Rick | July 30, 2007 at 09:48 PM
Oh yeah -- Jeana, with a quip like that, you're going to feel right at home here :-)
Birdie, this is so fun to see all these new names popping up at your place! Those lucky BlogHer folks just finding you for the first time are in for a real treat as they discover your wonderful stories.
Posted by: Carroll | July 30, 2007 at 09:48 PM
I am sure that you know I am only one of many in the "I have the biggest crush on Birdie" queue.
Dang - now I have to post more! Maybe that will move me from spot 473 in above mentioned queue to spot 450. Oh how I long to be in spot 450. *sigh*
Guess I will have to comfort myself with a Margaritahhhhhhh that I can share with Carroll ;)
Posted by: Jedd | July 30, 2007 at 11:03 PM
Hey, Jedd -- y'know we're prolly close enough to do that for real sometime. Next time Birdie's in town we'll get an actual factual mid-point Margaritahhhhh venue lined up for a meet-up, OK?
:-)
In the meantime, I'm thinking it might be time to welcome all these new readers with a good old fashioned blog party hoopla like back in the Beauty Dish days.
Anyone else up for it?
Posted by: Carroll | July 30, 2007 at 11:18 PM
Yes, it is only 7 am-ish, but I could totally go for a virtual margaritaaaaaaah.....
in fact, I have the most awesome margaritaaaaaaah story that I will tell soon, thanks to reader JK!
So. Where are the dancing boys?!
Posted by: Birdie | July 31, 2007 at 07:51 AM
birdie, those cards are awesome! i have been thinking lately about getting someone to design a logo for me.
Posted by: barbie2be | July 31, 2007 at 12:35 PM
Good idea Carroll! Birdie has my email, and she should pass it along to you. Not sure if my sweetie or my ankles would let me be the dancing boy but I would sure try! ;)
And Birdie - you are SUCH a tease with your "Oh I have a great story about 'x' that I will tell in 'y' days..." You gotta watch out with those posts or the Shrek will post a list of all the unfinished and promised stories :)
Maybe we should all just head over to New Mexico for a big campout-under-the-stars-Birdie-Storytelling-(and belly dancing)-fest! Then we could all get caught up.
