A trip to my local cemetery

Windmill

A windmill marks the grave of a rancher.

I mentioned the local cemetery in my last story, but plan to write a full article about the place in the near future after interviewing some of my neighbors.

I uploaded a little photo album you may enjoy.

the bird and the beetle

A long-horned beetle decided to visit the dust-whipped glass door of my sun porch this morning:

Longhorned

Click my monster bug for a life-sized version!

Long-horned beetles love fragrant, moist rotting wood, which would accurately describe my sorry sun porch. Time to look for the worst of the studs, to grab my circular saw and overalls. My son Martin, age 10, named our new friend with the six-inch antennae "Chester." I'm just gonna call him "Trouble."

Caption 10 at the Harry Potter party!

Marty, on the left, acted in a Harry Potter skit last Friday Night near the stroke of midnight. What a ham! In the play, he had just taken a sip of a foul-tasting magic potion.

small town summer nights

Driveincolumbia

I had company from out of town over the past week. It was a hectic but good diversion, good push into what should be a fun, gentle summer. The boys and I took in a double feature at the Fort Union Drive-in last night, and as they laughed at the surfing penguins I leaned back, watched the Milky Way snake overhead. I asked for a sign, for comfort, but the stars gave away no secrets. I liked the lack of response.

Last two weeks of school

We're heading into the school year home stretch. Since the next couple of weeks will be filled with a huge list of obligations, please enjoy these photos from around town... 'cause I may not have much time to write:
